The Best Ways to Wake Up in the Morning

I never used to be a morning person, and I didn’t ever plan on being one. I would stay up until 2 or 3 in the morning, roll out of bed at 11 am or noon, and then I‘d wonder why I never felt productive.

It wasn’t until the pandemic hit that I was granted an opportunity to start improving my schedule. I started focusing on what I was doing first thing in the morning and realized that if I changed what I was doing & how I approached mornings, I could change my entire life.

Drink Water

You haven’t had anything to drink for more than 8 hours. Any other time of the day, you’d be parched but because it’s first thing in the morning, people head for coffee. I suggest keeping a water bottle that will stay cold overnight next to your bed so that when you wake up you can immediately take a sip. I’m obsessed with my Simple Modern water bottle.

Move Your Body

You don’t have to do an entire workout first thing in the morning, but some kind of movement will make you feel much more awake and ready for the day. I like to do my workout first thing before I’ve done anything else, but if you’d rather workout at a different time, five to ten minutes of stretching or cardio will do the trick.

Breathe

After I make my bed (which I also recommend doing!) I like to sit on it and take some calming breaths. I love the mobile app Breathwrk, but you can also just take deep breaths. While I’m breathing, I focus on how I want my day to go. I picture myself having a great day, smiling, and enjoying life. I also picture myself getting my work done efficiently.

Do Something Fun Before Work

This isn’t something I get to do every single day but it’s something I try to do. I like to find something that brings me joy, like playing with my dog, playing a game on my phone, drawing, etc. that I can do in thirty minutes or less at the beginning of my day. I like to find something that can lighten my mood and encourage me to have a great day.

What do you do in the mornings?
